Here you can visit the Queensland Museum and Science Centre to see science, culture and nature exhibits. And don’t miss a dip in South Bank’s Streets Beach, Australia’s only inner-city, manmade beach. On a beautiful day (and let’s face it, Brisbane has plenty of them), the Botanic Gardens are well worth a visit, with gorgeous plant life to admire and a number of enviable picnic spots to nab.

The St Lucia area is a hub for uni students to hang out in, with an abundance of cheap eats and green spaces to hang out in. Just down the road from the UQ campus on Hawken Drive is an array of dining options, perfect for grabbing a bite to eat after a big day of classes.

You can travel to and from QUT Gardens Point by bus, train, CityCat (ferry) or on foot, depending on the location of your accommodation. The campus has its own CityCat stop and is a short walk from Central and South Bank train stations, and King George Square and Queen Street bus stations. QUT students who cycle to campus can access secure bike racks, lockers and showers.

There’s no shortage of buses making their way to Herston campus. The most convenient stops to get off at include the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital busway stop and the Herston busway stop. In peak times, you can expect buses to come by at least every 5 minutes.

The Brisbane public transport system is easy enough to navigate. If you’re living a little further out from campus, you can use the TransLink journey planner to find your way to uni.

When you’re not in class or completing assignments, Brisbane has plenty to keep you entertained. Less crowded than Sydney with more sunny days than Melbourne, Brisbane flaunts the perfect blend of outdoor adventure and metropolitan delight.
