UniLodge John Grey Hall is a purpose built student accommodation property located just a stone’s throw from classes at James Cook University, Cairns. John Grey Hall offers a range of living options, including studios and six-bedroom multi-share student apartments. All accommodation types are equipped with a cooktop, oven, microwave, and refrigerator. A 42-metre-long internal grass courtyard features shared BBQ facilities – the perfect place to relax and hang out with friends.

UniLodge John Grey Hall achieved NPAS accreditation in 2023. The National Property Accreditation Scheme (NPAS) is an industry-led program that is owned, governed, developed and administered by the Student Accommodation Association (SAA). It helps national education stakeholders identify, promote, and support quality-managed student accommodation businesses that provide housing exclusively for students.
NPAS represents a stamp of quality, allowing students to make informed choices about their accommodation. To be NPAS accredited, a property must meet the minimum standards set by the SAA in areas such as amenity, facility, security, customer service, and management processes.
Barbecue facilities are available on the Skydeck and in the courtyard. Residents can enjoy the free electric BBQs with friends at any time.
Bicycles can be registered for free at reception and securely stored in the ground floor bicycle storage room. Outdoor bicycle racks are also available.
The Media Room, located on the ground floor, features a large TV, PlayStation, surround sound, blackout blinds, bean bags, and access to Disney+ and Netflix.
UniLodge John Grey Hall has several common areas open to residents at all times. The recreational room offers opportunities to socialise and includes various games and a vending machine.
UniLodge John Grey Hall offers 120 car parking spaces free of charge for residents. Parking is subject to availability and requires a permit, which can be obtained at reception.
A share car is also available and can be booked via the Residential Portal.
Our gym, located on the ground floor, is equipped with treadmills, indoor cycles, weights, cross-trainers, and more. It is free to all residents and accessible 24/7 with a key card.
Each studio and shared apartment kitchen includes essential appliances such as a fridge/freezer, toaster, kettle, electric cooktop, ducted range hood, and microwave.
The laundry room, located on the ground floor, includes washing machines and dryers. Payment is $5 per load (wash or dry) via credit or debit card. The laundry room is open 24/7 and also includes free irons and ironing boards.
Located on Level 7, the Skydeck offers 360-degree views of Cairns, along with a shaded lounging area.
The Skydeck includes a BBQ, TV, Xbox, and access to Disney+ and Netflix. There is a comfortable indoor lounge, as well as tables and benches in the undercover outdoor area.
Our friendly, on-site customer service team provides general assistance and pastoral care services. You will always have someone available to support you.
Two JCU computers and printing facilities are available in the study rooms on the ground floor. Printing is paid for using your JCU student card, which you can top up with credit.
The property is ideally located with easy access to public transport, making the Cairns CBD, local beaches, and surrounding suburbs easily accessible.
We also provide a share car, which can be booked via the Residential Portal.
JCU has two on-campus cafes, and the Campus Village Shopping Centre is within walking distance, offering shops, cafes, a chemist, and a fast-food outlet.
Smithfield Shopping Centre is a five-minute drive from UniLodge John Grey Hall and features a wide range of shops, major supermarkets, and a cinema. It is also accessible via public transport.
Access to your floor, apartment, and individual room is via key card. Resident safety is our top priority. The property has secure key card access for all lifts and common areas. No one can enter the building without approval from on-site management.
Study rooms are located on the ground floor and can be booked via the Residential Portal. These spaces are ideal for quiet individual or group study sessions.
Shared apartment common areas have TVs, and there are also TVs in the media room, gym, and on the Skydeck.
A vending machine is located in the recreational room. It accepts credit and debit cards and is regularly restocked.
Wi-Fi is available in all common areas. Internet access is provided free of charge via the JCU Network.
