5 Ways to Take Care of Your Mental Health

Vivida Blog

Here are some tips from our team at UniLodge Vivida and UniLodge Riversdale.

1. Limit Media Consumption

Often the media can project a negative view on the Coronavirus situation which sensationalises the issue and invariably fails to highlight what is going right.

Limit consumption by:

  • Turning off the TV, putting your phone down, turning off your laptop/PC
  • Engaging in other activities such as reading your favourite book, meditation, making yourself a cuppa and writing down some of your goals in a notebook

2. Exercise

Exercise has been proven to improve mood by producing endorphins in your body. Even if it’s a half-hour to an hour of walking each day, it’s sure to keep you alert and refreshed as it provides you with fresh air and different views.

3. Maintain Social Contacts

Some ideas are to:

  • Call a friend
  • Organise a Zoom meeting with a group of friends [Helpful hint: Zoom is free to use!]
  • Call a family member

4. Get enough sleep

The Sleep Health Foundation guidelines advise that healthy adults need between 7 and 9 hours of sleep per night. Sleep is when the body can recharge and regenerate.

Some benefits of sleep are:

  • Improved memory
  • Improved mood
  • Improved immunity to fight infections
  • Increased brain alertness

5. Maintain healthy habits

Eat nutritious food to maintain brain and body health such as eating lean proteins, healthy fats and mixed colour of vegetables. Ensure you drink enough water to stay hydrated throughout the day. And remember, this lockdown is only temporary.
