2024 Canterbury Accommodation Scholarships

*Things you need to know:

1.  To be eligible for this scholarship offer you must have applied for 2024 Accommodation via the University of Canterbury Accommodation Services website  for a 48 or 52 week booking at Ilam Student Accommodation or Sonoda Christchurch Campus. Residents must apply for a scholarship between 01.08.2023 and 31.10.2023 to be eligible.

2.  To be eligible for this scholarship offer you must be classified as an eligible existing resident at one of the UniLodge Halls of Residence or University of Canterbury affiliated Halls of Residence (College House, Arcady Hall, Rochester and Rutherford Hall) and a full time student at the University of Canterbury as defined on page 14 of the University of Canterbury Calendar.

3.  If you are selected as a recipient of this scholarship you will need to sign a 2024 Residential Agreement for Sonoda Christchurch Campus or Ilam Student Accommodation.

4.  The scholarship amount will be added onto the recipients UniLodge Accommodation fee account as credit towards their accommodation payments, 4 weeks post their contract start date.

5.  Recipients are only eligible to be awarded one Scholarship type only.

6.  All new bookings must have paid the deposit amount listed in their residential agreement to secure their booking as outlined in the letter of offer by the date specified in it. Failure to pay deposit by the specified date will be deemed not eligible for this offer.

7.  A resident must submit an application form online.

8.  Applications will be assessed against the eligibility criteria as set out by UniLodge.  The review panel will be headed by the General Manager Portfolio and consist of the Area General Manager, Senior Residential Life Manager, Property Manager Operations and a representative from the University of Canterbury Accommodation Services.

9.  The Returning Residents leader scholarship will be awarded to five current UC Halls Residents who has demonstrated leadership qualities towards accommodation at Ilam Student Accommodation or Sonoda Christchurch campus on a 48 or 52 week contract.

10.  The value of the Returning Residents leader scholarship as of 23.06.2023 is $2,000NZD per person. The total amount will be awarded to the successful candidates of this scholarship as a rental credit towards their student accommodation rental fees in 2024.

11.  The Sustainable Development excellence scholarship will be awarded to five current UC Halls residents with demonstrated leadership in environmental/sustainability/UNSDGs activities at university for accommodation at Ilam Student Accommodation or Sonoda Christchurch Campus on a 48 or 52 week contract.

12.  The value of the Sustainable development excellence scholarship as of 23.06.2023 is $1,000NZD per person. The total amount will be awarded to the successful candidates of this scholarship as a rental credit towards their student accommodation rental fees in 2024.

13.  The Māori and Pasifika student leadership scholarship will be awarded to five current UC Halls residents who has whakapapa Māori/Pasifika as per UC calendar regulations (page 15)  with demonstrated leadership for accommodation at Ilam Student Accommodation or Sonoda Christchurch Campus on a 48 or 52 week contract.

14.  The value of the Māori and Pasifika student leadership scholarship as of 23.06.2023 is $1,000NZD per person. The total amount will be awarded to the successful candidates of this scholarship as a rental credit towards their student accommodation rental fees in 2024.

15.  Scholarship applications will be reviewed against their written submission of how they will contribute to a residential community, a reference from their time in a current hall of residence at the University of Canterbury and how this scholarship will support their studies.

16.  Successful applicants will be notified by email of the outcome of their application, along with their offer letter for 2024 accommodation.

17.  This offer cannot be transferred or exchanged for cash.

18.  This offer is valid at Ilam Student Accommodation and Sonoda Christchurch Campus at the University of Canterbury and is not available at any other UniLodge property in Australia or New Zealand.

19.  This offer is not valid with bookings that have already been deposited/received/accepted.

20.  This offer is not to be used in conjunction with any other UniLodge offer.

21.  You will not be eligible for this offer if your residential agreement is broken before the contract end date. You will be required to pay the value of the scholarship amount that you were awarded, back to your property prior to your exit date.

22.  Applicants are responsible for all costs incurred in the preparation and lodgement of their application.

23.  Successful applicants are responsible for any moving costs that may be incurred.

24.  An unsuccessful application does not in any way imply that a personal judgement that been made about the applicant.

25.  Any extra costs incurred during the course, or at the conclusion, of the residential agreement will be the responsibility of the recipient.  These include, but are not limited to, costs due to damage caused by the recipient, replacement of equipment broken during their stay, out of hours call out costs, replacement key costs, cleaning costs at the end of the tenancy.

26.  Successful students must be 18 years or older at the time of the residential agreement being signed unless otherwise agreed by management of UniLodge.
