They say Queensland is beautiful one day and perfect the next. And they’re not wrong. If you’re moving to Brisbane – a subtropical city on the banks of the beautiful Brisbane River – you can expect a whopping 261 days of sunshine a year.

The stunning weather makes it perfect for outdoor activities. Swim in Australia’s only inner-city man-made beach at South Bank Parklands, go hiking up Mt Coot-tha and take in the spectacular views over the city, or sit and enjoy a cool drink in the Regatta Hotel – a 140-year-old pub on the river.

There’s so much to do in Brisbane – and thanks to great public transport links and the iconic CityCat ferries, it’s easy to get around. If you’re into the arts, you’ve the Gallery of Modern Art, the Queensland Art Gallery and State Library all side by side on the banks of the river.

You’ll find top entertainment precincts in Paddington, West End, Fortitude Valley, South Bank and many more parts of the city. Add to that world-class live music concerts at River Stage and the CBD’s many new laneway bars and eateries – and you’re spoilt for choice.

Location Canberra

There’s so much more to our colourful, diverse capital city than politics. Canberra is surrounded by beautiful forest, farmland and nature reserves which is why it’s sometimes called the ‘Bush Capital’. There are a stack of spots nearby for great bushwalking, trail biking and picnics where curious kangaroos will watch your every move.

It could also be called the ‘Festival Capital’ because there are so many major events on throughout the year. Get ready to fill up your calender with the likes of the Floriade Flower Festival, Canberra International Music Festival, Fireside Food and Wine Festival, Summernats Car Festival and Canberra Balloon Spectacular. The list goes on!

The city’s central feature is Lake Burley Griffin, filled with sailboats and kayaks, and on the lakeshore is the massive, strikingly modern Parliament House. Nearby are incredible museums including the National Gallery, known for its indigenous art collections. Canberra is easy to get around so you can walk between a lot of places to check them out.

Unlike many Australian cities, the weather does change significantly throughout the year so you can enjoy true seasons. Our favourite activities include swimming in nearby lakes in summer, local wineries in autumn, museums or nearby ski fields in winter and nature reserves in spring.

Whatever you decide to do while you’re in Canberra, you have to head to the place that invented the Freakshake. These totally over the top milkshakes will blow your mind. Check out Instagram if you haven’t seen one and when you get to Canberra head straight to Patissez to try one.

There’s much more to Adelaide than its famous church spires. Packed with lively cafes and restaurants that celebrate the city’s multicultural flavours, it’s now just as famous for its vibrant dining, arts and live-music scene.

Adelaide hosts loads of events throughout the year, including the world’s second-largest fringe festival. There’s also WOMADelaide to look forward to, a four-day world music festival held in the heart of the city at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, where artists from around the globe perform under giant Moreton Bay fig trees.

If you’re into the great outdoors, you’ll love exploring the 193 hectares of parklands that circle the city – or the famous Glenelg Beach, which is just 20 minutes from the bustling heart of the city.

Just 30 minutes in the other direction and you’re in Europe. Well, the quaint German village of Hahndorf, at least. It’s well worth a visit as you explore the world-class wineries in the Adelaide Hills.

Finally, if you’re into sport, South Australia’s historic Adelaide Oval – located right in the heart of the city – is considered one of the prettiest grounds in the world.
