D2 (Melbourne) joins the UniLodge portfolio
Well, it’s hot off the press and exciting. UniLodge has been appointed manager of the prestigious D2. We are scheduled to take over the reins late 2008, opening 2009 to students. If you are not familiar with this premium facility here is a snapshot:
D2, situated in Orr Street Carlton, offers six star boutique student accommodation. This property comprises 116 self contained apartments over eight levels. The building features quality finishes, advanced technology and environmental excellence. Each apartment has floor to ceiling glass and balconies. Next edition we’ll present more about the stunning D2.
Community Spirit
As promised here is a little about our student life program – more next issue.
Introduction
Community Spirit is a contemporary program that has integrated:
•  the best student practices from all our properties;
•  areas of importance highlighted by stakeholders such as universities, other       major learning institutions and student’s parents;
•  useful insights on values, lifestyle, habits and behaviour of generation y; and
•  feedback and ideas provided from our own ongoing customer (student)    satisfaction survey.
Purpose
•  The main purpose of Community Spirit is to provide an appropriate level and     mix of activities, care and support for students residing at UniLodge; and
•  The implementation of the Community Spirit program as policy enables our     business to provide a quality and consistent level of student care, throughout     the group.
Overview
To offer a balanced program of activities that supports student well being across the many dimensions, identified in several academic papers to include:

•  Life as a whole
•  Standard of living
•  Health
•  Achievements in life
•  Personal relationships
•  Safety and Security
•  Community connection
To support the program through:
•  A range of strategic policies and procedures; and
•  Evaluation and ongoing development of the Community Spirit program.
Goals
•  To offer opportunities for growth - mentally, spiritually and physically;
•  To build a sense of belonging and community;
•  To provide opportunities for student integration, (and with this, increased     understanding and value of multiculturalism) and fun and friendship;
•  To engage students in a range of social responsibility practices;
•  To provide students with an Australian experience;
•  To provide a high level of student safety and security; and
•  To increase customer satisfaction.
More on this program next edition.

Your Place
We hope you like our new tag line. Your Place has been strategically designed to:
•  Be flexible and open for interpretation, including ‘your place’ at university and    ‘your place’ in the community;
•  To create a sense of belonging – my pad, my home, my place;
•  To demonstrate individuality an important attribute for "generation y"; and
•  Be a proposition to make UniLodge "your own" whether that is as a student,    staff member or investor.

We love our new branding video and hope you will too – take a look via the above link. While you’re there you’ll find UniLodge Uncut. And, go to ANU book-style Info Pack to see another way we will be distributing many of our brochures in the future.

@ Metro Adelaide GM interview
Congratulations to Ron Leslie on his appointment as GM at our new Adelaide property. Ron is one of our most experienced operators and has spent around 6 years at UniLodge Brisbane. We asked Ron what was his take on UniLodge @ Metro Adelaide?
Q: What was your first impression of the facility?
A: "Well I walked around ½ km from it and then looked back and thought – wow that’s impressive!"
Q: If you had to pick one property feature – what is the best?
A: "I think the common area between levels 7 and 8 will be spectacular. It’s spacious, excellent use of natural light and the views are great. I think students will also love the outdoor gardened area up there in the sky"
Q: Explain the "best bits" of the apartments, in your words?
A: "I thought the kitchenettes were excellent, hot plates, good size fridge/freezer and plenty of cupboard space. There were flat screen TV’s (I want one!) and they are air-conditioned – that’s important as Adelaide can be quite cold and in summer very hot!"
Q: When students arrive at the property are they under pressure to sign their lease straight away?
A: "No - there are several procedures in place to ensure this is not the case;
    1. Lease contracts are sent to students before arrival
    2. Lease documents are placed on the website for viewing at any time
    3. The student has 7 days to sign their lease
    4. A manager goes through the key terms and conditions on arrival"

@ ANU GM interview
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Peter Warrington as General Manager. Peter is the current General Manager of our existing ANU property and his portfolio will expand to include our second on campus facility. Peter has done a tremendous job including initiating many activities involving residents in social responsibility – fund raisers, community involvement and even veggie patches with the assistance of the ‘UniLodge Green Team’. Peter also takes a very ‘hands on’ approach with student care. Peter – in your own words please tell us….
Q: Can students book now?
A: They can register their interest now.
Q: What will students love the most?
A: Location, vibe, the hip, funky design. Access to transport and the CBD.
Large computer lab and study areas. Spacious living areas and common rooms.
Supportive community feel.
Q: Canberra can be cold – is there air-conditioning?
A: Yes, all rooms are provided with heating to keep you warm through out
winter, we do recommend packing a good jacket or parker for venturing
outdoors.
Q: Students often complain there is no where to play loud music?
A: We provide two sound proof music rooms and we also recommend utilising
one of the several ANU music halls on campus.  Head phones are still
recommended - to keep the peace amongst flatmates and neighbours.
